Local organizations doing good things

BOSS - Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency  Based in Berkeley, dedicated to helping homeless, poor, and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency, and to fighting against the root causes of poverty and homelessness. They have special program that helps homeless kids succeed in school.

Karma For Kids  Dedicated to providing happiness and healing in the lives of children with cancer and their families through the practice of yoga.

KPFA - Pacifica Radio  The first Pacifica, listener supported radio station, located here in Berkeley. They do a lot to support the community, put on ground-breaking broadcasts, keeping the alternative alive.

The Jazz School  A full-fledged jazz program, with classes on just about every subject imaginable, they put on concerts, have a youth program...run by the wonderful Susan Muscarella.
